Geocache Description:

Richmond Hill

The field that this cache is located in has recently had trees planted. These were planted to compensate for the new building work on the east slope of the campus which was previously fields. There are now plans to re-profile the remaining grassland using the chalky soil excavated from the East Slope development to create a calcareous grassland.

The walk and caches

This walk is about 2.5 miles (4 km) with 11 traditional caches. There are also some other caches on route and nearby. The route will take you on a walk around the South Downs National Park on the border of the University. The terrain is varied with some steep climbs, uneven surfaces, and gates.
A wide variety of wildlife can be found on the walk including deer, birds of prey, badgers, rabbits, and plenty of other birds.
More information about the route can be found on the boundary walk leaflet.
The description for each geocache contains some information about what can be seen from the cache and the surrounding area.

Getting here

Parking on campus is currently £2.50 for three hours for visitors. Charges apply Monday to Friday, 9AM to 5PM. Visitor parking is only available in selected car parks (parking areas 4, 5, 7, and Sports Complex) and can only be paid for by phone (through an app or telephone call). For more information see sussex.ac/sef/services/transport. Avoid parking here on football match days, as the car parks may reserved for the home fans.
There is also parking at Stanmer Park for users of the public parkland. Charges apply all week from 9AM to 8PM. Parking charges can be found on the City Council website. Access is heavily restricted on match days and when there are events at the park.
