I don't really know a ton about Darien Lakes State Park but I'm trying my best to get out on the trails here to learn my way around. A few months ago I decided to scout locations for a multi cache; while I was here, I came upon this nice creek overlook. I thought it might be a worthy place for a second cache. As I took in the view here, I tried to think of a name involving the word "overlook." Overlook Travel Bug Hotel came to mind almost instantly. Like the Overlook Hotel featured in The Shining, this cache is in a remote location. To start with, it only has one lonely unactivated travel bug guest, which seems fitting for a cache based on the Overlook Hotel at the end of a long winter. In addition, this cache has a few costume items that might help you to get dolled up for an evening party in the ballroom at the Overlook. The cache container is painted to loosely resemble the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado; this hotel is where Stephen King got his inspiration to write the novel The Shining. It is also where Stephen King filmed his miniseries version of The Shining when he wasn't happy with Stanley Kubrick's cinematic interpretation of his work. Happy caching, stay safe during hunting season and.... ....REDRUM! * * * * This cache has been properly permitted by Darien Lakes State Park (permit number 19-003DL).
