[RO] Statuia Sf. Nepomuk. Statuia Sfântului Ioan de Nepomuk este cel mai vechi monument al oraşului (1729). În prezent, statuia originală se află în incinta bisericii Romano-Catolice din Arad, copia expusă în piaţeta de pe strada Episcopiei fiind opera artistului plastic arădean Mihai Takács. Statuia a fost ridicată în anul 1729, imediat după sanctificarea episcopului ceh de către papalitate. Sfântul fiind protectorul apelor, a podurilor, statuia lui iniţial a a fost aşezată pe malul Mureşului lângă clădirea vămii de sare. Statuia colorată provine dintr-un atelier vienez, fiind opera unui sculptor anonim. Sfântul Ioan din Nepomuk (n. cca 1345 – d. 20 martie 1393 Praga) este un preot şi martir, probabil de origine germană, născut sub numele „Johannes Welflin” în „Pomuk”, localitate din Boemia de vest. Mormântul său, care este o capodoperă din punct de vedere cultural şi artistic şi care conţine 16,5 tone de argint, a fost realizat de Joseph Emanuel Fischer von Erlach şi a devenit o atracţie turistică din Praga. Cea mai importantă statuie a lui se află lângă „Podul Carol” din Praga. Originalul se află în curtea catedralei romano-catolice. Sfântul Ioan Nepomuk este considerat astăzi patronul orașului Arad.
[EN] The statue of St. Nepomuk. The statue of St. John of Nepomuk is the oldest monument of the city (1729). At present, the original statue is located inside the Roman Catholic Church in Arad, the copy of which was exhibited in the square on the Episcopiei Street, being the opera of the local artist Mihai Takács. The statue was raised in 1729, immediately after the Czech bishop's sanctioning the papacy. The saint, being the protector of the water, the bridges, his original statue was placed on the bank of the Mureş river near the custom salt building. The colorful statue comes from a Viennese workshop, being the work of an anonymous sculptor. St. John of Nepomuk (born aprox. 1345 - die March 20, 1393 Prague) is a priest and martyr, probably of German origin, born under the name "Johannes Welflin" in Pomuk, a town in western Bohemia.
