Altare della Patria
Nel 1878 il Parlamento Italiano decise di dedicare un monumento nazionale all’appena scomparso sovrano Vittorio Emanuele II.
Dopo aver bandito due concorsi internazionali (1880 e 1882), fu scelto il progetto presentato da Giuseppe Sacconi. Il giovane architetto marchigiano, sul modello dei grandi santuari dell'età classica, aveva concepito lo spazio come una rappresentazione scenica che celebrasse, al centro della Roma imperiale, il Risorgimento italiano.
La struttura architettonica del monumento fu elaborata come un percorso ascendente ideale che attraverso le scalinate e i terrazzamenti, arricchiti dai diversi gruppi scultorei e dai bassorilievi del centrale Altare della Patria, si innalzasse ai Templi laterali e da questi al grandioso Portico colonnato sormontato dalle quadrighe in bronzo, allegorie dell'Unità della Patria e della Libertà. Pur se iniziati nel 1885, i lavori procedettero lenti e il progetto fu continuamente modificato. Lo stesso materiale col quale doveva essere costruito, il travertino, fu sostituito col bianchissimo botticino bresciano.
Tra il 1885 ed il 1910, tutta l’area alle pendici del Campidoglio fu interessata dal nuovo assetto urbanistico che vide la demolizione dei preesistenti quartieri medievali e rinascimentali. Per una migliore visuale del monumento furono spostati anche il Palazzetto Venezia e la Chiesa di Santa Rita.
Alla morte del Sacconi, nel 1905, i lavori furono diretti dagli architetti Gaetano Koch, Manfredo Manfredi e Pio Piacentini
Il 4 giugno 1911, in occasione dell'Esposizione Internazionale per il cinquantenario dell’Unità d’Italia, Vittorio Emanuele III inaugurò la grandiosa statua equestre in bronzo dorato. Nel 1921 nella cripta progettata da Armando Brasini, fu tumulata la salma del Milite Ignoto.
Fra il 1924 ed il 1927 sui Propilei furono posizionate la Quadriga dell'Unità, di CarloFontana, e la Quadriga della Libertà, di Paolo Bartolini. Solamente nel 1935, però, i lavori poterono considerarsi conclusi

Questa Cache era del collega Dhavid, Non potendola dis-archiviare e adottare la faccio identica a prima usando lo stesso listing molto ben fatto.
Caro Dhavid, non ci conosciamo e mi dispiace per tutti i Geocacher romani il fatto che nella Capitale d'Italia esista qualche personaggio coatto (e per fortuna sono pochi) che ci tiene a rovinare questo gioco e a rubare le cache di altri GC.
Purtroppo per loro, finché ci saranno Owner Coraggiosi questa Location sarà sempre il simbolo del "geocaching sano" che i geocacher Romani e tutti i GC del mondo che vengono qui si meritano.

Altar of the Fatherland
In 1878 the Italian Parliament decided to build a national monument in honour of the recently deceased sovereign Victor Emanuel II. After publishing two international competitions (in 1880 and 1882) for drawings, it was decided to choose the ones presented by Giuseppe Sacconi.
This young architect from the Marche region used the great temples of classical times as a model and conceived the designated space as a scenic representation celebrating the Italian Risorgimento at the heart of Imperial Rome. The architectural structure of the monument was conceived as an ideal ascending itinerary starting from the stairways and terraces, embellished with various sculptural groups and the bas-reliefs of the central Cenotaph, to then proceed to the lateral Temples and to finally reach the grand Portico of columns surmounted by bronze four-horse chariots, allegories of the Unity of the Nationand of Freedom. Although they began in 1885, the works went on slowly and the project was continuously altered. Even the material to be used in its construction, travertine, was replaced with white botticino Brescian marble. The years between 1885 and 1910 saw works in the whole area at the foot of the Capitol, with the demolition of the existing Medieval and Renaissance buildings.
To improve the view of the new monument, even the Palazzetto Venezia and Church of Santa Rita were moved. After Sacconi’s death, in 1905, the construction works were directed by the architects Gaetano Koch, Manfredo Manfredi and Pio Piacentini.
On 4 June 1911, during the International Exposition marking the fiftieth anniversary of the unification of Italy, King Victor Emanuel III inaugurated the huge gilt-bronze equestrian statue. In 1921 the body of the Unknown Soldier was placed inside the crypt designed by Armando Brasini. Between1924 and 1927, the Quadriga of Unity, by Carlo Fontana, and the Quadriga of Freedom, by Paolo Bartolini, were placed on the propylaea. However, it was not until 1935 that the works on the monument finally ended.

This Cache was from GC Dhavid,. Not being able to dis-store and adopt the same as before using the same very well done listing.
Dear Dhavid, we do not know each other and I feel sorry for all the Roman Geocachers that in Italy Capital there is some "coatto guys" (and fortunately they are rare) who are keen to ruin this game.
Unfortunately for them, as long as there will be courageous owners, this Location will always be the symbol of the "healthy geocaching" that Rome GC and all the worlowide GC deserves
