Ilkley Tarns #3: Upper Tarn
The cache, a small screw-capped camo-taped glass jar, is hidden at a lovely resting spot at the east end of this tranquil small tarn situated on the slopes of Ilkley Moor just east of White Wells.
To reach the cache location: park at the White Wells parking area which has free parking for some 8-10 cars off Wells Road @ N 53 55.131 W 1 49.571 and follow the wide track heading south up to White wells and beyond some 100m to the tarn
No history could be found for this attractive small tarn with its fine views, especially to the west. Unlike the larger Craig Tarn some 300m below to the north-east, which was developed as an ornamental feature of the town from a moorland pond and bog with paved pathways, a shelter and (in the past) an island fountain, this is most likely a completely natural feature of the moor.
