Potijze lag gedurende vrijwel de hele eerste wereldoorlog binnen de gealieerde linies, maar lag wel bijna onophoudelijke onder obussen vuur. Het kasteel van Potijze bevatte een Advanced Dressing Station. De begraafplaats werd gebruikt van april 1915 tot oktober 1918. Er zijn nu 584 graven van het Gemenebest uit de Eerste Wereldoorlog op de begraafplaats en ze is ontworpen door Sir Reginald Blomfield.
