Placed along Phase 2 of the Carl "Bud" Schmitt River Trail of Illinois. Phase 2, completed in October of 1992, extends 1.8 miles along the Illinois River from Spindler Marina in the north to Cooper Park in the south. Approx. 1200 linear feet of the trail is a six-foot wide boardwalk with three large decks overlooking the wetland area adjacent to the Illinois River. Geese, ducks, and even the occasional beaver may be seen along the trail.
At the specified coordinates, you will (hopefully) find a small brass disk.
Divide 138.4 by the number on the disk to get the decimal portion of the minutes for the final latitude: N40° 41.xxx
Divide 89.76 by the number on the disk to get the decimal portion of the minutes for the final longitude: W089° 32.xxx
Note: You may need to step off the path to retrieve the final container, but there is no reason to go any further. This area may be a bit soggy at times depending on recent weather.
