宜蘭昭應宮建立於清嘉慶13年(1808年)，由當時廳治南街(今新民里)居民集資而建，至今已超過200年歷史，供奉主神為天后媽祖。道光14年(公元1834年)宜蘭發展日盛，居民原意擴建昭應宮，相傳當時命理師言昭應宮地處宜蘭市市中心，如易向座東朝西，蘭陽子弟必定「科甲聯登」，故將原址拆除改建為戲臺，改建昭應宮於原址對面，現存廟址即是此時所建造位置。改建後蘭陽地區楊士芳、李望洋等人相繼進士，舉人及第，蘭陽文風譽滿全臺。昭應宮現址為道光年間所留下，因當時改建為座東朝西面向，使昭應宮成為全臺唯一不面海的媽祖廟。現存前殿與正殿，大多仍保存道光時期構造。廟內並保留歷史遺跡，如先人建廟與整修時於樑柱上以古錢幣造型巧妙記錄了修繕年份；道光御賜「澤覃海宇」、光緒御賜「與天同功」、通判丁承禧「澤周海甸」，總兵張兆連「恩周赤子」的匾額等古物，皆為珍貴的歷史軌跡。昭應宮另供奉了開蘭3大老：楊廷理、翟淦及陳蒸。
The Zhaoqing Temple of Yilan was established in the 13th year of Qing Jiaqing (1808). It was funded by the residents of the South Street at the time. During the 14th year of Daoguang (1834 AD), Yilan was developing and growing. The residents originally intended to expand Zhaoying Temple. According to the legend, at the time, the numerologist said Zhaoying Temple was located in the center of Yilan City. If Yi Xiangdong moved toward the west, the children of Lanyang would definitely be called “Ke Jialian”. As a result, the original site was demolished and rebuilt as a stage, and the reconstruction of Zhaoying Palace was on the opposite side of the original site. The existing temple site was the site where it was built. After the reconstruction, Yang Shifang, Li Wangyang and others in Lanyang District successively attended the scholarly examinations. The present location of Zhaoying Palace was left during the Daoguang Period. At that time, it was reconstructed to face the west of the seat and make Zhaoying Palace become the only Mazu Temple that does not face the sea. The existing front hall and main hall, most of them still preserve the structure of Daoguang period. In the temple, historical sites are preserved. For example, ancestors built temples and meticulously recorded the year of repairs on ancient beams in beams and columns during repairs. Daoguang bestowed “Sawakyu Haiyu” and Guangxu’s bestowed “Tongyin with Heaven”. “Ze Zhou Zhou Haidian”, Zong Bing Zhang Zhaolian, and other ancient artifacts such as “En Zhou Chou Zi” are precious historical trajectories. Zhaoying Temple also enshrined the three major leaders of Kavalan: Yang Tingli, Yan Zhen and Chen Zheng.
