Geocache Description:

I’ve wanted to make a series like this for ages, so here it is! There are 5 caches in it with Difficulty/Terrain ratings 1/1, 2/2, 3/3, 4/4 and 5/5. The caches are:

You can only find the co-ordinates of the 5/5 by finding the other 4 caches in the series first. So if you want to find The 5/5, read its description before looking for any of the others.

The published co-ordinates are of the bandstand at Burngreen Park. A black plaque on the side of the bandstand commemorates the members of Kilsyth Public Band who died during World War I. There is a picture of a musical instrument on the plaque; the number of letters in its name = A.

Also on the bandstand is a grey stone monument to members of Kilsyth Town and Victoria Bands who also died in World War I. The number of people whose names are listed on the monument = B.

At Waypoint 1 in Burngreen Park is a memorial to the recent past: a time capsule that was hidden in 1990 and is to be opened in 2040. The number of letters in the first word on the plaque = C.

Waypoint 2 is round the corner from Burngreen Park, and you can find two “monuments” there. The first one is the large centrepiece erected to commemorate the history of coalmining in the area. The number of letters in the forename of the councillor who unveiled it = D.

On the fence next to it is a simple memorial plaque to someone who served Kilsyth. The number of vowels in his forename = E.

Waypoint 3 is nearby. Here you can find a sculpture of the person who was the first freeman of the burgh. The number of letters in his surname = F.

Waypoint 4 is a 5 minute walk away. This is a monument to Rev Dr William Jeffrey, minister of The High Church in Kilsyth. “He was a faithful preacher of the Gospel, a wise physician, and a generous friend of the poor.” The number of letters in the white item = G.

Close by is Waypoint 5 and Kilsyth Cemetery. The most prominent feature of the cemetery is the monument to Lady Kilsyth and her infant son, both of whom died when a turf roof collapsed on them in a house in Holland. Lady Kilsyth’s husband, William Livingstone, was “with difficulty extricated”, but the monument tells us that Lady Kilsyth and her son were not the only people who lost their lives in the accident. The number of other people who died in it = H.

Checksum: The total of A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H is 40.

The next stage is at another monument. It is at N55 5A.BCD W004 0E.FGH. A plaque beside the monument gives its name.

J = Position of letter E in the name
K = Number of words in the name
L = Number of different consonants in the first word of the name
M = Number of letter Rs in the name

The cache can be found by following the path behind this monument to N55 5A.BJK W004 0E.LKM.
