Kirkut Traditional Cache

Kirkut Przedwojenny Sulechów jak wiele przygranicznych miast był miastem wielokulturowym. Przy obecnej ul. Handlowej mieściła się synagoga, a miejski kirkut zlokalizowany był na zachodnich obrzeżach miasta, przy obecnej ulicy Piaskowej (wówczas Sandstraße, pod numerem 36). Powstał prawdopodobnie w XIX w. Zajmował powierzchnię 0,37 ha. Został zniszczony w trakcie nocy kryształowej. W latach 80 kirkut ostatecznie zlikwidowano, a na jego miejscu wzniesiono budownictwo jednorodzinne. Zdemontowane macewy po zakończeniu prac wywieziono i nie są znane ich dalsze losy. Obecnie po nagrobkach nie zachował się niestety żaden widoczny ślad. Do czasów obecnych przetrwał jedynie budynek dawnej kaplicy przedpogrzebowej, zaadaptowany po II wojnie światowej na cele mieszkalne. Lokalna legenda głosi, że w przyziemiu jednego z budynków wybudowanych na terenie dawnego cmentarza znajdować ma się zabetonowany grobowiec pozostały po dawnej nekropolii. O keszu: mała skrzynka ukryta na łonie przyrody pamiętającej czasy istnienia nekropolii. Uważaj, jesteś na widoku. Przed podjęciem rozejrzyj się.

Pre-war Sulechów, like many border cities, was a multicultural city. At current ul. Handlowa housed a synagogue, and the municipal Jewish cemetery was located on the western outskirts of the city, at the current ul. Piaskowa (at that time Sandstraße, number 36). It was probably built in the 19th century. It occupied an area of 0.37 ha. It was destroyed during the crystal night. In the 1980s, the kirkut was liquidated and in its place single-family housing was erected. Disassembled matzevot after the completion of the work were removed and their further fate is unknown. Currently, no tangible trace remains after the tombstones. Only the building of the former pre-funeral chapel, adapted after the Second World War for residential purposes, has survived to the present. Local legend says that in the basement of one of the buildings built on the site of the former cemetery, there is to be a cemented tomb remaining after the old necropolis.
