Old Well Gardens
This is a grade 2 listed building (Well Head at SW 7848 3495) and is the site of the Holy Well of St Gluvias. A holy well is a spring which in the past, many believed had the power to cure illnesses or even hold divine power.
The well sits within a small garden area in a residential road. I believe this is what gave the street its name. Previously farmland, the well would have supplied the local houses with water as well as irrigation for the farmland.
The well was completely rebuilt in the late 20thcentury following extensive demolition despite its listed status- quite possibly by the builders of the houses on Old Well Gardens which were built in 1987.
Very little is known about this well, so if you have any additional knowledge, please include it within your comments as I would love to learn more about it.
The cache is a medium sized box with some treasure in and enough room for trackable’s, I would love you to post a picture with your comments, as it is so great to see fellow geocachers. You will see a small grassy area on your left as you come down Old Well Gardens, there is a small path which you can follow to the well. To find the cache, walk across the bridge to get a good look at the well, but no need to jump down...
I have included some pictures, one is a map from 1906 which shows the well being listed on there. As well as a picture of the well from 1986 and 2018.
