[IT]Il Ponte sorge nella confluenza del Cagnan Grande nel Sile, luogo in cui l’ampia ansa un tempo ospitava gli approdi dell’antico porto fluviale di Treviso.
La particolarità naturalistica di questo punto di affluenza è che le acque dei due corsi d’acqua per qualche metro rimangono visibilmente separate creando un contrasto di colori tra il marroncino delle acque del Cagnan e il verde delle acque del Sile.
Il nome attuale venne dato nel 1865, sesto centenario della nascita di Dante Alighieri, per ricordare la citazione della città nella sua opera la Divina Commedia con la celebre frase “dove Sile e Cagnan s’accompagna”. In tale occasione venne innalzata la stele in marmo di Carrara con un medaglione della testa del sommo poeta di profilo, recentemente restaurata.
In realtà inizialmente il ponte in pietra era chiamato dai popolani “ponte dell’impossibile” perché con la prima piena si pensava cedesse, come tutti i precedenti ponti in legno e passerelle.
