State Fact: There is a town called Normal. There is a town called Oblong. A newspaper announced a wedding with the headline "Oblong Man Marries Normal Woman." Since it is unverified, it may be the stuff of legend. Also a legend, Oblong changed its town name in 1880 because it did not like its original name of Henpeck. Normal is named for the local university that started as a teachers college. Teachers taught the normals.
