Geocache Description:

Originally called the Roseneath Terrier, this breed originated in Scotland. The earliest mention of this dog can be traced back to the time of King James I of England. Originally, Westies were presented to visiting royalty as a sign of respect. These were sandy, tan coloured dogs and favoured above white ones. However, George Campbell, Chief of Campbell clan of Scotland, sought to preserve the white ones and bred these for his region. Inquisitive and bright, the Westie was bred from the offspring of Cairn and Scottish Terriers in order to create a hunting terrier. The Westie is wilful, independent and likes to do things his way.

Famous Westie owners include Hitchcock, Twiggy, Whoopi Goldberg, Hugh Laurie.

FUN FACTS:
Famous Westies can be seen on the Cesar dog food advert, the Black and White Whiskey Co. bottles and the Juicy Couture Co. logo.

Westies are barkers! Don't make the mistake of shouting to them to stop, they will think you are joining in!

The Westie is Britain's 13th most popular dog.
