Old Section 1872
This old section of the Towanda Cemetery holds most of Towanda’s pioneers. You are in the old section opened in 1872. In fact down off this hill to the west in the river valley used to be filled with hundreds if Indian camps that traded with James R. Mead in the 1860s. His trading post in that valley off of the spring was located close to the current west entrance to the town.
The traditional place of resting
The living will also loom,
A perfect place for caching
Its placed in its own tomb
With the Moon and the Mossman
stand watching who lurks by,
The doorway to its salvation
Offers a path to where it lies
Have a Ghost of a time!
