Geocache Description:

From its source to its mouth, the Mersey River flows through varied topography, rich agricultural land and many interesting centres of population. The Meandering the Mersey (MTM) series will follow, as much as pracitcal, the course of the Mersey River with caches being placed at varying intervals. We trust you will enjoy the area.

Bells Parade is the jewel in the Latrobe Municipality. It is a wonderful location where individuals or family groups can swim, fish, use the play equipment and enjoy the many walking paths. It is also the venue for numerous community events and has been for over a century.

The main island is directly opposite Bells Parade. For many areas it was a neglected area, overrun with tea-tree, swamps, blackberries and wild pigs and it was from the latter that the island got its name. Over the last twenty years or so there has been significant community effort to reclaim Pig Island. The Latrobe Landcare Group has led the work and now the island has great walking tracks and large open grassed areas between stands of native and exotic trees. It is interesting to see the careful design work as the area is still prone to major flooding, the latest being in June 2016 when one life and many houses were lost. Pig Island was under water for weeks but it took less than four months to rehabilitate the area because careful thought had been put into where trees were planted and left and how all the lower limbs had been removed from the trees so as not to impede water flow.

The area is flood prone and any cache at ground level has a short lifetime. So, this cache is a bison tube and is tethered by a cable tie about 300mm above ground level. Enjoy the hunt as you explore the area.

A cache on Pig island just has to be a pig based puzzle.

There are 10 famous pigs in the image below. You need to rank them from 1 to 10.

Assign numbers to the pigs with the first being "1" and the last being "10" which will be interpreted as "0". Now use these numbers to complete the coordinates for the cache hide.
