Geocache Description:

This cache is placed in memory of my geocaching friend, Laurie, also known as Mrs. MidnightsRaiders. I think that Laurie would have enjoyed sitting here looking up Oakland Run or out across the Susquehanna River. Teal had a special meaning for her, and so the "teal deer" here can be a token of her memory. I think she would appreciate this trail and our hiker geo-art even though by the time it published, she was too weak to come here and hike it.

The Mason-Dixon Trail running along Lake Aldred north of Holtwood Dam takes a turn nearby to go up Oakland Run. I believe this is near where the ill-fated bridge built in 1815 (with the aid of substantial river ice). It was destroyed by river ice on March 3, 1818.

The Island in the Sky geocache used to be in this area. It required a climb up the "island" and was an ammo can that recently disappeared. I considered placing an ammo can, but too often there are people camping along the nearby river. An ammo can just didn't seem prudent.

You might have noticed that the terrain here is 3.5. Is that a Colorado 3.5 or a Pennsylvania 3.5? It isn't stroller friendly. My younger daughter stayed up top watching what I was doing. Maybe consider it a Beth 3.5 knowing how I am usually prudent in where and how I put my feet. You might also note that I set the cliff attribute. But I didn't climb down very far - certainly not to river level. My daughter could reliably toss me a stick.

When I decided to place this, I needed to find a container. Do I have a deer around the house? How would I make it teal? Should I use a larger container that muggles will find or something more stealthy. You are looking for a bison tube but it is not alone. It has a teal deer keeping it company. Bring your own writing implement.

When you come here, please bring your camera. Consider hiking a little further up the trail to enjoy the waterfalls of Oakland Run. if you haven't already done so, work on our Hiker geo-art. When I placed this in mid-April, many wildflowers were starting to bloom. The rhododendrons will bloom in June. The area is also beautiful in snow and ice although you should most definitely watch your step searching for this container if it is wet or icy. You could slip. But the container is tucked away, sticking around, and feeling secure. I'm sure you'll find it and smile at the teal deer. Please enjoy your hike.

Or perhaps you said tl;dr.

Congratulations to 0ptitron on the First-To-Find.
