The Sunday afternoon Treasure Hunt by car used to be a regular event in some areas. We are not sure whether there are still pockets of activity where this is still popular but here is our attempt to resurrect it in a more modern guise. You can start the Wherigo cartridge anywhere (even at home) and be given the details of what is involved. This will allow you to get an idea of whether you want to attempt this challenge, or not, and plan how you will approach it..
The challenge is to find some treasure, there's lots of it; you will be given a list. This is "virtual" treasure which has been "hidden" along the route you will take and also within the Treasure Hunt Zones you will need to visit. As usual with a treasure hunt there is most fun to be had if it is done in teams with a full car and in competition with others. For safety reasons there will need to be at least two people in the car, driver and navigator. There are 5 geocaches to find en route and three "Award" geocaches at the end. The award geocaches are Gold, Silver and Bronze depending upon how well you performed in the hunt.

You may keep your overall result to yourselves and simply log the appropriate geocache award you have earned - an excellent performance will enable you to "find" all three - there are physical logs to complete. To facilitate your competitive instincts (some more than others) you may submit your result (via a unique encrypted code) for inclusion in a list. Click here - Results List - to see the current list. Start the cartridge anywhere to see what this Wherigo entails but then you will need to go to the Start Zone which is within 5km of the map icon. You will get the most enjoyment if this Wherigo is attempted in good weather with good visibility. The Treasure Hunt Challenge will take you on a 20 mile tour of pleasant countryside on reasonably quiet roads and should take you no more than two hours. Take your time - there are lots of opportunities for refreshments and other activities en route and you are able to take "Time Out" to do that.

The cartridge has been tested on iPhone and Andriod phones and appears stable. If the cartridge hangs or crashes, which can happen with some devices, then just restart the cartridge or device. The game will restart at the same place with little lost time. NOTE: Use the main screen as your source of information, all treasure will appear there, but you have to be in the right place.
