Yorkshire Trench was een loopgraaf uit de eerste Britse linie die ontstond in 1915 na de gevechten die volgden op de eerste gasaanval (22 april 1915). Vanaf einde 1916 en in het voorjaar van 1917 werd de loopgraaf volledig gemoderniseerd en werd ernaast ook een diepe ondergrondse schuilplaats gebouwd (in het Engels: deep dugout).
Bij toeval ontdekt in 1992 werd de dug-out en daarna het hele nieuwe industriegebied systematisch onderzocht door het archeologische team van De Diggers. Zo werden ondermeer 156 soldatenlichamen geborgen en een laatste rustplaats gegeven op een van de Britse, Franse of Duitse begraafplaatsen. Temidden van de overal verrijzende industrie verwierf de stad een klein perceel (51 x 31 m) ter hoogte van de dug-out.
In samenwerking met het VTI van Ieper restaureerden De Diggers de loopgraaf over een afstand van bijna 70 meter. Het grondplan van de onderaardse dug-out wordt bovengronds weergegeven, alsook het tracé van de ondiepe loopgraaf uit 1915.

Yorkshire Trench était une tranchée de la première ligne britannique qui a surgi en 1915 après les batailles qui ont suivi la première attaque de gaz (le 22 avril 1915). À partir de la fin de 1916 et au printemps de 1917, la tranchée a été complètement modernisée et un abri souterrain profond a été construit à côté de lui (en anglais: pirogue profonde).
Découvert par hasard en 1992, l'excavation puis la toute nouvelle zone industrielle ont été systématiquement examinées par l'équipe archéologique de De Diggers. Par exemple, 156 corps de soldats ont été récupérés et un dernier lieu de repos a été donné à l'un des cimetières britannique, français ou allemand. Au milieu de l'industrie qui montait partout, la ville acquit une petite parcelle (51 x 31 m) à proximité de la pirogue.
En collaboration avec le VTI d'Ypres, De Diggers a restauré la tranchée sur une distance de près de 70 mètres. Le plan au sol de la pirogue souterraine est montré au-dessus du sol, ainsi que la route de la tranchée peu profonde de 1915.

Yorkshire Trench was a trench from the first British line that arose in 1915 after the battles that followed the first gas attack (April 22, 1915). From the end of 1916 and in the spring of 1917 the trench was completely modernized and a deep underground shelter was built next to it (in English: deep dugout).
Discovered by coincidence in 1992, the dug-out and then the entire new industrial area was systematically examined by the archaeological team of De Diggers. For example, 156 soldiers' bodies were recovered and a final resting place was given at one of the British, French or German cemeteries. In the middle of the industry that was rising everywhere, the city acquired a small plot (51 x 31 m) near the dug-out.
In collaboration with the VTI of Ypres, De Diggers restored the trench over a distance of almost 70 meters. The ground plan of the subterranean dug-out is shown above ground, as well as the route of the shallow trench from 1915.
