I started the Johnny Appleseed series about three months ago as I watched my caching karma droop over the years, and felt the need to give back, and explore the local trails in a different perspective. Since those 50 caches were placed, my karma has doubled from 0.35 to over 0.70, so I'm starting round two, sprinkling caches along the trails just a bit farther from home.
Welcome to McClellan Ranch Preserve! This 18-acre preserve was a horse ranch in the 1930s, and has special significance to the Phlopper family as we spent many days here as the kids were growing up, being so close to home. We even filmed some fun videos of them that are still family treasures. Then Phurry Phlopper joined the family, and our attention went elsewhere (cue Charlie Brown "No Dogs Allowed" music). This cache is located next to the babbling brook that is Stevens Creek, meandering peacefully through this part of the park. There are lots of cute birdhouses (often occupied) and flora markers in the park, I'm sure they are all well described by pamphlets available in the Park offices. This is close to marker #6.
Congratulations to NoBigDipper for the FTF!
Good luck, enjoy the trail, and remember it is good to give back!
Update 08/21/2023: the increased brook-flow from winter rains mowed down a lot of the area. The location is still suitable for the container, but is a little less of a proud sentinel of camoflage. Cache replaced and hint updated.
