FYC - Pohick Bay Regional Park Traditional Cache

The Chesapeake Bay, the great rivers that feed it, and the vast landscapes surrounding them are at the center of our nation’s story. More than 2,600 miles of designated water trails, 55 units of the National Park System, and scores of state parks, local parks, and wildlife refuges are found within the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Each takes part in conserving special places for visitors, residents, and future generations. The Find Your Chesapeake (FYC) Geotrail launched June 9, 2018 with over 60 caches within Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania. and Delaware. A trackable geocoin will be awarded to the first 300 geocachers, while supplies last, for locating at least 20 FYC caches. To be eligible for the coin, geocachers must download a passport from the Find Your Chesapeake Geotrail website. Geocachers must find and log at least 20 finds, record the code word from each cache on their passport. After discovering the 20 required caches, geocachers may have their passports validated via mail at the National Park Service, Chesapeake Bay Office located at 410 Severn Ave, Suite 314, Annapolis, MD 21403. Participating in the FYC Geotrail is fun and we hope that many people join in. However, it is not a requirement for logging your find on this cache once you find the container.

Imagine skimming along the smooth waters of an uncommonly beautiful wetland. A kingfisher chatters as it whizzes by you, a Bald Eagle turns a broad circle overhead and a deer gazes at you from the shore. A breeze covers the water with silky ripples. Where are you? On a guided canoe trip offered by the Naturalists at Pohick Bay Regional Park! “Canoe the Marsh”, a 35 year tradition here, takes visitors along the shores of Pohick Bay while teaching them about the biodiversity and beauty of the marshes. You can choose to paddle a two-person canoe or select a single or kayak. Stop by the visitor center to sign up and experience Pohick Bay from the waters’ perspective.

Pohick Bay Regional Park is open from sunrise to sunset daily. The Gate House is open from March 10 through October 8 on weekends and holidays from 10am to 6pm. The fee for entrance to the park for vehicles for people not living in City of Alexandria, Arlington County, City of Fairfax, Fairfax County, City of Falls Church, or Loundon County is $8.
