St. Laurence Way was created at the cost of £5million to join Eastwoodbury Lane with Eastwood via Nestuda Way to allow the runway of London Southend Airport to be extended by 300 metres. The extension allowed the airport to accommodate modern passenger jets serving, at the time of writing, almost 40 European destinations.
To create the new road changes had to be made to St. Larence Park. The play area received about £800,000 of new equipment and a new wild flower meadow. A cutting was created so that street lighting was not distracting or visible from the runway and also a new roundabout. In all, 1,000 yards of roadway were laid and it was officially opened in late August 2011.
Facing roughly east and a few steps right or left from GZ, you should have a nice view straight over the runway to St. Laurence and All Saints Church. Also, if you choose the right time you will be able to watch aircraft landing and taking off.
Unfortunately, there is no room in the cache for pen/pencil so do bring your own. There may be room for small swaps/trackables; I have placed my first trackable to start and a souvenir for the FTF. Please make sure you leave the log well sealed.
Please make sure not to damage the surrounding area and always park in the car park if you are motoring.
