Geocache Description:

10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Sunday 29th April
Close Street Reserve, Canterbury

Geocaching NSW would like to invite all geocachers (both members and non-members) to help celebrate this year’s International CITO week by lending a hand to clean up part of the Cooks River foreshore, along Close Street Reserve in Canterbury. Your participation in this event will earn you the souvenir for the first International CITO Week in 2018. (The second week will be in September).

This reserve is located east of Canterbury Road, on the northern side of the Cooks River. Easiest parking (about 15 spots) is on Close Street itself, but if this fills up it is possible to park across the river on Berna Street (park at the end of the street and take a short on the path around the wetlands, along Cup and Saucer Creek and cross the river using the pedestrian bridge at Hutton Street).

This year, our CITO is more like traditional clean-up events of the past. However, the bulk of the effort may require donning the gumboots and venturing into the mud and mangroves. We may even look at getting some of the larger items out of the river such as tyres, shopping trolleys, bicycles, etc. There will be tasks available for all abilities.

We suggest attendees wear sturdy closed toe shoes, or if going into the mud and mangroves, gumboots or waders. Gloves and sun-screen are essential; a hat, drinking water and insect repellent are advised.

As for equipment, a variety of clean-up tools such as grabber claws and pool filter nets would come in handy, and for the larger items that we might get from the river, a wheelbarrow or two would be useful. We (GCNSW) will supply the garbage and recycling bags. For the geopooches, there is an enclosed dog park on site.

Please post a “Will Attend” log and add this event to your watchlist so you receive any announcements.
