You’re looking for a regular-sized cache loaded with mostly CITO-related swag.
This cache is all about giving back to our communities by helping to clean up our parks, forests, prairies, and waterways. Or maybe by helping to return the land to its native natural state by eliminating invasive plants. Or building or repairing trails. Geocaching.com has a name for it: “Cache In – Trash Out,” or “CITO” for short.
You can CITO on every geocaching adventure! Pick up trash that you see on the trail. Clean up the area around each geocache. These small acts can make a huge difference, and you will be generating goodwill with the locals as well as the stewards of the land whose actions can have a very large impact on our favorite outdoor activity!
From time to time there are specially scheduled CITO cleanup events in the area. A CITO “event” is a type of geocache. But…rather than an actual container to find (like this one), it’s an activity for which you get credited with a virtual “find.” Instead of using an app or GPS receiver to find a hidden container, one can attend a scheduled CITO event that brings together many others for cleanup and repair of our outdoor natural spaces. It’s geocaching’s ongoing environmental initiative, which people can participate in year round.
