The Elaphiti Islands is a small archipelago consisting of several islands stretching northwest of Dubrovnik, in the Adriaitic sea. The Islands have a total land area of around 30 square kilometers and a population of 850 inhabitants. The islands are covered with characteristic Mediteranean evergreen vegetation and attracts large numbers of tourists during the summer season due to their pristine beaches and scenery.The name comes from the ancient Greek word for 'Deer' which used to inhabit the islands in large numbers.
Major Islands are: Sipan, Lopud and Kolocep, all easily accessible by tourist boats or day trip ferries.
