Geocache Description:

We are often told (correctly, if somewhat ideologically), that geocaches should take us to somewhere "interesting", and not simply be placed just for the sake of it. The aim of this series is to try and adhere to this ideal by basing caches around details given on an Information Board about the area in which it is situated. By definition, it is hoped that this information will be "interesting", and will help the cacher discover things about the area that would often not be revealed by a traditional cache.

Entering Belbroughton from Clent one sees a large painted sign depicting four village scenes and a man with a scythe. This sign was painted by a W.I. member and presented to the village by the W.I. in 1938. The man with the scythe was Isaac Nash, who made the firm of that name famous the world over for its crown scythes, hooks and hay-knives.

Most visitors to Belbroughton today would have no idea that it had an industrial past, and there is little in the village today to give any hint of its significance. A few of the old mill pools survive, but most of the mills themselves have been demolished.

At the headline co-ordinates is a plaque commemerating one of these Mills, and you will need to visit that and to look around the nearby area to find the information for the final co-ordinates:

ABC = Year the Mill was demolished minus 1402

DE = Nearest house number minus 2

F = Number of pairs of bolts on each sleeper

Cache can be found at N52 23. ABC W002 07.DEF

I hope that you find this an interesting variation on the caching experience. If you would like to add to the series, please contact the CO, Airtomoreira, by emailing him at fyigeocaching@outlook.com. He will allocate a series number to you, and give you some general guidance for placing your cache. If you already have a cache based on an Information Board, and would like to add it to the series, that would be no problem, again, please contact him for a series number.
