Park at the Hockanum River Linear Trail trailhead near Beacon Light on Oakland Street and follow the trail a short distance downstream. I scouted out this area when
looking for an ideal spot to watch the annual Hockanum River Canoe and Kayak Race This is a pleasant walk which leads to a large tranquil area where the river opens up into a large pond. Plenty of marsh birds and evidence of beaver activity. The Hockanum River race begins in the Talcottville section of Vernon at the former Golfland and follows the river into East Hartford near Burnside Avenue. Enjoy!
