Porcupine - a very slow moving 2-3 foot long rodent with an 8-10" tail commonly found in this region, as well as elsewhere in the world - covered with about 30,000 quills for protection - they do NOT shoot their quills at a predator like many people seem to think, actually they turn their back towards a predator and more or less swipe their tail at them to release some quills, although their whole body is covered with them - they can swim and climb trees - they make a wide variety of sounds including moaning, teeth clicking, grunting, shrieks, and whines. A very interesting animal!
