"Star Wars Day, May 4, celebrates George Lucas' Star Wars. It is observed by fans of the media franchise. Observance of the commemorative day spread quickly through media and grassroots celebrations.[1][2]
The date was chosen for the pun on the catchphrase "May the Force be with you" as "May the Fourth be with you". Even though the holiday was not actually created or declared by Lucasfilm, many Star Wars fans across the world have chosen to celebrate the holiday.[3] It has since been embraced by Lucasfilm as an annual celebration of Star Wars."
Disney whom has since acquired control of Lucasfilm has embraced May the Fourth and now has a dedicated page directing fans to various events and activities associated with celebrating the wonders of Star Wars together across the world. https://www.starwars.com/may-the-4th
I decided to host the event for several reasons, mainly due to how much enjoyment I've had over the years watching the legacy of Luke Skywalker unfold. The event takes place in the Carmel Arts District at the storefront of a new shop where my daughter (whom is NOT a Star Wars fan) works. The family that owns this establishment however, IS a family of Star Wars enthusiasts! I'd love to show her the power of the Force that is within the geocaching community!
Weather permitting we will have young Jedi training on the sidewalk along Main Street...you may even see some familiar characters wandering about (photos are greatly encouraged)! Its really intended to be a quick celebration to come together and still have time to enjoy the start of our weekend but you are all welcome to hang out or even take a stroll down the Monon Trail within walking distance of the event. Star Wars attire not required but greatly encouraged!!! Would love to see you all there!
