Geocache Description:


From pre-Columbian times, this area has been known for its harvesting of salt and fishing. Throughout ancient Maya / Yucatan history, the salt here was one of the most sought after salt in the area. Researchers say that, in ancient Maya times, Yucatan white salt was worthy of nobility as far awa as central Mexico.  Enjoy the amazing colours of the different Salt Evaporation Ponds in the various stages of readiness. To access this cache, you will be driving on well-maintained paved road flanked by mangroves on either side, just a short distance from the coastline.  You will see shall salt flats which, at certain times, can appear very pink i the center and white salt crystals along the banks. These mangroves are also home to Flamingos and Egrets.
