A small to medium sized animal, weighing approximately 3 kg.,Yellow-bellied marmots have thick, yellow-coloured bodies and short broad heads. Marmots hibernate for approximately eight months of the year, generally from late September to May. When they emerge from their burrows in the spring, they are in full pelage (coat) and as the summer progresses they molt, or shed their coats.
Yellow-bellied marmots are herbivorous. They eat grasses, flowers, and other plants. In preparation for hibernation they eat large numbers of seeds in the late summer. THEY DO NOT EAT PEOPLE FOOD! Feeding marmots can severely affect their nutrition and their ability to survive during the winter.
The marmots will probably be watching you as you look for this cache if you are looking in the spring or summer months.
