Geocache Description:

A nice easy cache accessible from either end of the canal where parking is available.

On the western front in WW1, dead or blasted trees were selected to be copied and used as observation positions. A suitable tree was studied and replicated in steel and during the hours of darkness the real tree was removed and the imposter was installed in its place. The false tree was camouflaged to look like the original and to the casual eye nothing had changed in the landscape come morning. The new 'tree' served as an ideal look-out position and those extra few feet altitude gave observers a real advantage when surveying the largely flat landscape of Belgian fields.
