Rolle Obelisk, Bicton Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Freelanders: We went along to check today and couldn’t find the container either. The cache location has really deteriorated and the parking area is virtually impossible to use due to very thick mud and the surface breaking away. We did access from the other end of the footpath but parking is not really easy from there either so we are reluctantly archiving this one 🥲

Geocache Description:

The Rolle obelisk is a grade 2 listed monument, erected in 1730 simply as a landscape feature for the nearby Bicton House & park (now Bicton College and Bicton Park Botanical gardens)

It is a tall limestone needle on a granite pedestal, with cast iron railings. There are no inscriptions.

The obelisk is on private land, but can be seen clearly from the cache location.
