Join us for the Maryland Geocaching Society’s sixteenth annual Summer Picnic at the Susquehanna State Park! Everyone who has an interest in geocaching is invited to come and join in the fun. You need not be a member of the MGS to attend. Whether you have 10 or 10,000 finds, this event is for you! New to the game? New to the area? Visiting from out of town? Please drop in and introduce yourself – we’d love to meet you!

Susquehanna State Park is a public recreation area located on the banks of the lower Susquehanna River valley, north of Havre de Grace.  The park is home to some of the most popular mountain biking trails in Maryland, and contains family-friendly campgrounds with traditional sites and cabins.  History buffs can explore the Rock Run Historic Area with its working grist mill, the Carter-Archer Mansion, Jersey Tollhouse, Flint Furnace, Steppingstone Farm Museum, and remains of the Susquehanna and Tidewater Canal.  The park offers trails for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians, river and pond fishing (check park information for fishing license requirements; different licensing is required between pond and river), boating, seasonal hunting, and park-led programs and activities.  Near the Deer Creek picnic shelters you will find horseshoe pits and a volleyball court available for use; however, users must provide all playing equipment.  There are open fields nearby, as well.

PLEASE RESPECT PARK RULES.
PARK OPENS AT 9AM.
PETS ARE ALLOWED BUT MUST BE LEASHED.

Our schedule for the day:

  • 10.30am: Setup & Grills fired up
  • 11am–3pm: Silent Auction, caching, 50/50, eating, socializing
  • 3.15pm: Door prizes, auction results, and general announcements

The silent auction will continue throughout the day and will feature a range of popular items from geocoins to cache containers. A list of donated items up for auction will be posted on the MGS site closer to the event.

Please bring your favorite potluck dish to share. Post a ‘Will Attend’ log if you are planning to come, and please mention what dish you plan to bring. A list of needed items can be found here. The event will be held rain or shine. We hope to see you there!
