Geocache Description:

West Windsor has a new public space to enjoy on the riverfront.

The Port Authority lands at the foot of Mill St. have been transformed from a wasteland to a park at the edge of the Detroit River —  now been officially unveiled as "Queen's Dock."

Port authority CEO David Cree says it's a great space for people to go.

"Go sit down by the river, watch the boats go by.  I think personally it's going ot be the best spot in the city to go watch bridge construction in the next few years and we're going to have some natural areas and of course fishing pier," says Cree.

He says the contributions added up to a significant investment, adding "it's at least $500,000 here and thank goodness for the city who came forward, I believe Councillor [John] Elliot used some of his council funds to repair the road which had gotten a bit beat up from the Hunter construction. So we now have a beautiful walkway with a turnaround down here and a beautiful roadway and I think it all fits in nicely."

According to Councillor John Elliot, the idea started about five years ago when Sandwich Teen Action Group hired 10 students to plan the layout of the park, begin the cleanup and even apply for grants.
