Geocache Description:

This series of fifteen caches (including a bonus cache) has been placed for the 10th Anniversary UK Mega Event - Yorkshire 2018. Similarity to the series Caching is Murder (GC4HYFQ) is intentional and is placed by and with the permission of the cache owner

The walk is approximately 3 miles on designated footpaths of varying terrain, including along the bank of the River Ure. Care should be taken with children and dogs as in places the path is very close to the river. There is a waypoint given for an alternative path from number 7 to 8, however this can be boggy after wet weather and hidden by Himalayan balsam in the Summer.

DO NOT attempt this series if the river is in flood.

ALSO NOTE – Giant Hogweed has been seen growing near (but not next to) the path between Clues 02 and 07. This can cause severe painful blistering and sensitivity to sunlight if touched.

THE CRIME - A CLUE TO A KILL

Following a report of a serious incident, Inspector Dimmer has been called to the village of Egam Newby in North Yorkshire.   He arrives to find that the Verger, Gerald Dalby, had been found seriously injured in the village.  An ambulance has arrived, but despite the best efforts of the paramedics, the Verger is pronounced dead.   Inspector Dimmer is now investigating a murder.

Inspector Dimmer asks the Vicar for a list of everyone in the village and is told about a campsite in a field next to the parish church established specifically for the Yorkshire Anniversary MEGA 2018.  He requests that everyone in the village and the campsite give him details of their whereabouts that morning from 7am to 8.30am, the time the Verger was discovered.  Following initial interviews, Inspector Dimmer has a list of ten possible suspects, but is unable to ascertain where the mortally-injured Verger was originally discovered.

It quickly becomes clear to Inspector Dimmer that the only way he can solve this murder is to ask you to help him with his investigations. Can you discover the killer, where the murder took place and how the crime was committed, ie the weapon used? To do this, you must visit each of the thirteen Clue caches in the series, A Clue to a Kill, as each holds information that will enable you to eliminate suspects, weapons and locations.

The co-ordinates for “Whodunit”, where you will make the arrest, are N54 05.ABC, W001 26.XYZ.

To help you with your investigations, print the attachment, Evidence Notes, and bring it with you.  (Copies are available in the cache for a short period).

It will be useful to have the following essential caching and detection equipment:

Strong shoes or wellingtons, tweezers, pen and paper (if no Evidence Notes), lid flipper/remover, nettle protectors (seasonal).  A magnifying glass, pipe and raincoat are NOT required, but may add to the fun.

Unfortunately, the series is not suitable for bicycles, buggies or wheelchairs.  Nettles, thistles and mud may be seasonal hazards.  Please keep dogs on leads around livestock (generally sheep) if present.  Caches vary in size and difficulty.  Please replace all caches as found.  Please let me know ASAP if any caches or clues are missing.

NOTE: If you have not printed out the Evidence Notes, you will have to make a note of the evidence you find in the clue caches; then, by a process of elimination, you will find the co-ordinates.
