English: The Church of Lyngby is the largest of the chalkstone churches in the area of Grenaa. Today the church is a gothic church. The tower as well as the porch has special ends, and the choir is of the same height and width as the nave. If you take a good look at the church you will find evidence of roman kind, showing that the church is older than it first appears. The signs date back to the 13th century.

The legend of the church says that it was a noble miss who had the church build. Meanwhile she had a sister who, because of jealousy of this great assignment, swore that she would build a wall around the church that would be more expensive than the church itself. She had a wall build that had such massive dimensions that it cost exactly 2 shillings more than the church.

Whether it is true or not, the church stands there, and the old stone wall is still visible at the south and west ends of the churchyard. If you doubt that it was more expensive, you must consider that this assignment was smaller, without a tower, porch and sacristy, it was lower than it is now, just as the choir was originally lower than the nave, also the church walls was twice as high as they appear now. Until 1854 the wall was 3,8 meters high and 1,7 meters wide. In 1862 the story around the church says that the 2 sisters are buried outside the porch.
