Geocache Description:

Flamborough Lighthouse at Flamborough Head is thought to have been the first lighthouse built in England - it was built in 1669, from chalk but was never lit.

There is still a lighthouse on this site, however the current one was built in 1806 and first lit on 1 December 1806.

In the past, warnings in foggy weather were provided by rockets, discharged every 5 minutes and reaching an altitude of 600 feet (180 m).  The last lighthouse keepers left on 8 May 1996.  East Riding of Yorkshire Council operate tours of the lighthouse seasonally. This is now a Grade II listed building.
