Geocache Description:

This geocache is hidden in Plum Creek Park. Park hours are from dawn to dusk. Please do not seek this geocache after dark. And please bring a pen with you to sign the log.

I was taking coordinate readings for this new hide when a man, along with his son and dog, approached me on the trail.  We greeted each other and chatted for a moment.  I think they may have noticed my GPS sitting there, so I decided to tell them what I was doing.

I began by asking "Have you ever heard of geocaching?"

The boy perked up right away and said "Yes!" but his dad was unaware of our hobby.

Gavin excitedly told his dad about geocaching, but said that his mother did not want him to participate because she thought that there were "bad things" in geocaches.  I was saddened to hear this, and said that for the most part, there would be only a log book and maybe small SWAG items to be found inside of a cache.  I told them that geocachers were wonderful, friendly people who simply enjoy the outdoors and have a sense of adventure.

We happened to be only a couple of hundred feet away from an existing geocache, so I invited them to accompany me to the nearby hide so that they could see exactly what geocaching is all about.

When we arrived at ground zero, Gavin looked around and discovered the geocache.  He opened it up and I showed them the log sheets and explained about trading SWAG and logging finds online.

I explained about the geocaching website and smartphone apps, creating an account, and a few other things about our hobby.  I invited them to become geocachers and told them to watch for some new hides in this park.

I hope they decide to try it out.  If they do, I hope they come to look for this geocache.

This one's for you, Gavin!
