Le bois du Cazier est un ancien charbonnage situé à Marcinelle. Le 8 août 1956, un incendie y fait 262 morts. Le site est inscrit en 2012 au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO avec trois autres charbonnages de Wallonie comme sites miniers majeurs de Wallonie.

A multi of +/- 4km that will allow you the discovery of the site Le Bois du Cazier. Hiking boots recommended. The main site is closed on Mondays, but the cache is accessible 24/7.
You are visiting the area of an old mine where 262 miners were killed in a fire on 8/8/1956. Le Bois du Cazier is today preserved as an industrial heritage site. Aside from memorials to the disaster, the site features a small woodland park, preserved headframes and buildings, as well as an Industrial Museum and Glass Museum. The museum features on the European Route of Industrial Heritage and is one of the four Walloon mining sites listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2012.
