Geocache Description:

Welcome to Celtic Shores Coastal Trail! We have been waiting for you! The 92-km Celtic Shores Coastal Trail stretches from Port Hastings to Inverness on the west coast of beautiful Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Explore the best of Canada’s seacoast as you journey along the trail where awe-inspiring natural beauty is matched by the vibrant celtic culture of our region. This exceptional trail system meanders along the coast providing first-class trail experiences for bikers, hikers, runners, quadders, skiers, snowmobilers and horse-back riders.

The railway proved a great service for communication, the train could carry news fast along the line, but the telegraph was much faster.  The problem with telegraph was line maintenance.  They figured out that by putting the telegraph lines along the railway, they could find and repair the problems much faster.  These stumps are just a reminder of the old days, unless you are too young to know what telegraph poles were, then you're just scratching your head right now. The remains of the telegraph line are easy enough to see along this stretch of the trail, but here you can even see the actual line draping along the trees, as it was never actually removed after the poles were cut out.
