This is a bit of an out of the ordinary event. Come pay tribute to the late artist, Andy Warhol, as we gather to celebrate his 90th birthday. Every year dozens of people show up to wish him a happy birthday and there is even cake! I am sure there will be a few surprises this year...come to find out just what and be prepared for anything!
Andy Warhol was born on this date in 1928 which means that today would have been his 90th birthday!! Every year since 2014, geocachers have been joining in on the celebration! Last year, even though someone forgot to submit the event, we still had a few cachers show up which was really cool. This year though, someone is on the ball and we are submitting this event extra early so we don't forget again.
The party will be starting at 5:15 pm and will last all night, but, for the sake of the geocaching event, we will say we will be there until 6:45. There will be cake and some prizes and costumes and warhol crafts. Group pictures will be taken numerous times, so if you miss one, hopefully you make it into the next. Note - There will be people there earlier, and people there later, but the log will definitely be there from 5:15pm until 6:45pm, so please, if you want to sign it, please be there during timeframe!!
This event is being held in a cemetery and we will be celebrating at Andy's marker. Madelyn Roehrig is our hostess. She is the artist behind Andy's Figments which is an ongoing art project exploring segments of daily life at Andy Warhol’s grave at the St. John Byzantine Cemetery in Bethel Park, Pa. Please be respectful when parking, and if you are of able body, reserve the closer parking for those that aren't as mobile. There maybe some uphill walking involved. The entrance to the cemetery is on Connor Road, not route 88!!
There is a webcam overlooking his marker. please refer to the 2 links posted below for more information and, if you can attend the event, don't forget that you can log the waymarks as well!! Also, if you would like, it would be cool if everyone went to the link and grabbed their webcam image. If you have the capability to do it while there, great, but if not, there is the ability to go back and look up the imagery based on the time, so do take note of the exact time you pose for the webcam!
