Geocache Description:

In late 2017 I helped organize a Para World Cup Cross Country Skiing and Biathlon event out in Canmore. Many countries used that race as their selection races for the 2018 Pyeongchang Paralympics. I met some amazing people and learned the true meaning of hero. We throw that word around a lot these days, but I swear for 9 days in Canmore, I met a real life hero every day. There were athletes who had lost limbs while serving their countries in Afghanistan, Iraq and their home countries. These men and women came home broken, picked up the pieces and became Paralympians. There were a couple of guys who were born without arms but became Paralympic champions anyway. I met a Canadian who has been blind since birth but goes out with a guide, a 2 way radio, a pair of skis and kicks butt every day. While she didn't get to the Pyeongchang, her joy was in the attempt and the journey. I met a one legged wax tech nicknamed 'Frodo' because of his uncanny resemblance! (Dude was hilarious!) There was another very young Canadian who was a relatively new para-athlete (6 months post injury) who showed up, raced like a woman possessed and made the Paralympics! I made some great friends and learned that no matter how sick or down you are, how difficult your circumstances are or what obstacles get thrown at you, anything is possible. And that, to me, makes them my heroes.
