Geocache Description:

On May 24, 1854, the people of the colony of Canada West (now Ontario) celebrated the 35th birthday of Queen Victoria.  This became a tradition which continued in the new nation of Canada after Confederation in 1867 until her death in 1901.  Following her passing, May 24th was made by law Victoria Day, a national holiday.  It also became known as Empire Day throughout the British Empire and became the "official" birthday of whoever the ruling Sovereign happened to be.

In 1954, Victoria Day was moved to the Monday preceeding May 25 in order to create a Long Weekend.  In Canada, this weekend has since been viewed as the unofficial beginning of summer.  Depending on where you are in this great country, you may also hear the weekend referred to as May Long or as May Two-Four, a double entendre referring both to the date and Canadian slang for a case of 24 beer - a popular Canadian summer drink.

This cache has been placed for SCAR2018, and although it was published on May 24th, none of you hosers should remotely consider finding it before the official start of the event at 5:30 pm, Friday, May 25th.
