Winter Geolympix Countdown 4: Young Bucks Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Simply Paul: With WGC3 in Milton Keynes on the 24th (I'm going to have to take a bus) looming, it's time to archive this memorable, hot hot hot, top-o'-the-world, hard-to-park, sense-of-achievement event. Sincere thanks to everyone who came out on a stupidly hot day to join me at the top of one of Bucks' hilliest hills. Especially to Team Hippo for the water again. Lifesaver!
Hope to see you all at the Winter Geolympix, if not before!

SP - Winter Geolympix Mega GC75FTF - Sat Oct 27th - Ashridge, UK - Awesome night caching, England's oldest caches, sales stands, LABs, the UK's oldest Puzzle and much, much more!

Geocache Description:

A chance to socialise with other cachers and hear a bit about our plans for the Winter Geolympix Mega which is being held at Ashridge Estate, Berkhamsted, Herts on Saturday October 27th 2018.

Where: Cymbeline's Castle, nr Great Kimble, Little Kimble and Ellesborough, in Buckinghamshire, with views of Chequres, the PM's country home.
Bucks has no surviving medieval castles (Buckingham's Gaol is a fake, Windsor is just over the border, as is Berkhamsted) with Boarstall Tower nr Brill being about as close as it has. Cymbeline's Castle therefor isn't a stately ruin - it did have a Motte and Bailey for a while, and there are many hill forts in the Chilterns - yet is still an impressive hill. It always reminds me of Watership Down, with the trees on top... A pretty spot for a picnic event, which has never hosted a cache meet, I believe.
In the event of bad weather (especially if stormy; the hill is very exposed and prone to lightning strikes!) then the event will relocate to the Alt location (see Waypoints) as a 'car picnic'.

When: Saturday the 30th of June 2018, from 1.30pm 'til 3.30pm.

What: A gathering of cachers to talk caching, swap travel items (anything to leave the country? I'm off to Italy shortly) and caching stories, and enjoy a packed lunch/picnic? Ideal for well-behaved dogs and children, but it's a steep climb with won't suit everyone. There's also free wifi (I'll turn my phone's Hotspot on!). In many ways the follow-up event to last month's Winter Geolympix Countdown 5: OxFord Fiesta.

Why: The Winter Geolympix Countdown cache events are roadshow meets to promote the Winter Geolympix and talk about the plans we have for the best (tbc) Geocaching event of 2018! There's awesome night caching, stalls and stands, quirky photo-op caches, Europe's 9th oldest cache (England's 2nd oldest, UK's 3rd oldest) plus the UK's oldest Puzzle cache, the National Series Caches Challenge and much, much more!

Parking: Is less than ideal! I've added some suggested waypoints, but please don't block access, anyone in/out, and take care if walking on/beside roads. Another option (not a waypoint) is to park either at the Coombe Hill car park at the top of the hill or on the left on the way up to it and walk down - and up again. It's a lovely shady stroll through the woods.

Also: A theme of the Winter Geolympix is old caches - England's oldest (UK's 2nd oldest), GC171, is close by - and we'll have freebies to give out, plus goodies to buy if you'd like to help support the Mega. No pressure.
