Geocache Description:

The co-ordinates listed are for the first question. The cache is not in the grounds of the church. There is a small car park at the side, or you can park in the road at the front but it is busy so be careful.

The Church

Saint Mary's Church is believed by many to pre-date the Norman Conquest. A priest, in Dymock, was mentioned in the Domesday Book and later references to religious leaders of Dymock occur in the records of Flaxley Abbey. In 1247 the Bishop of Hereford invested William of Tedington as the first vicar of Dymock. The church, originally Norman, has been greatly modernised. It has a low massive tower, with obtuse spire.

When I was wandering around checking out the churchyard, I was approached by a lady who kindly asked me if I was looking for someone particular. I ended up telling her about Geocaching, and the church micro series. She had heard of Geocaching and was really interested. I explained the concept of multi caches so that I ensure caching visitors see all round the church, but then I put the cache outside the grounds so I don't have to get permission. She told me that she was the Church Warden and I could place the cache in the grounds if I wanted to. I thanked her but told her I had already spotted a likely location so didn't need to put it in the grounds. She asked me to sign the visitor's book and mention what I was doing, which I did, and I left a donation. I would encourage others to do so too. The interior is fantastic.

The Cache

To locate the cache, find the answers to the following questions:

Q1: Lych Gate - On the brass plaque above your head, how many letters in each of Stanley's two last names? = A

Q2: Porch - In which year did William Hooper give £3? = BCDE

Q3: Porch - How many letters in the surname of William who gave £5 in 1719? = F

The cache, a magnetic tube, can be found at:

N 51° 58.(D+E)(B+F)(A+D) W 002° 26.(C-F)(A+B)(E*2)

Checksum - A+B+C+D+E+F=26
