Welcome to the Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center! Emma Thacher was the wife of John Boyd Thacher (a Mayor of Albany and NYS Senator in the late 1800’s), and in the early 1900’s she donated over 400 acres of land in memory of her husband which became John Boyd Thacher State Park. In 1999, Fred and Martha Schroeder honored Emma Treadwell Thacher’s generousity with their own remarkable gift when they funded and endowed the construction of the Nature Center on the land formerly occupied by Camp Thacher. The Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center opened July 17, 2001.
