中国人民革命军事博物馆位于北京天安门西面的长安街延长线上，是中国惟一的大型综合性军事历史博物馆，占地面积8万多平方米，建筑面积6万多平方米，陈列面积4万多平方米。主楼高94.7米，中央7层，两侧4层。截止至2012年末，全馆有22个陈列厅、2个陈列广场。军博收藏34万多件文物和藏品。其中国家一级文物1793件，大型武器装备250余件，艺术品1600余件，对外军事交往中受赠礼品2551件。其中有铜鎏金弩机、镇远舰铁锚、叶挺指挥刀、三八式步枪和解放军第一辆坦克等重大历史价值文物。
中国人民革命军事博物馆展览大楼于1958年10月动工兴建，1959年7月竣工，同年10月内部预展，1960年8月正式开放。
