Cache is loacted just outside the resort entrance on Gladys Rd, off of East Bay Rd, north of County Hwy B.
After the logging mill moved out of town in 1933, Winegar was not a good place to live. There were no jobs, and many of the residents were on public assistance. The town, like some others in the area, almost died.
But instead of becoming a ghost town, Winegar switched its attention from logging to tourism. Resorts began to spring up, as word of “Wisconsin’s Last Wilderness”, spread. By the 1950’s there were at least a dozen resorts in operation, and the town was once again thriving.
One of the resorts was called “Hills Oxbow Resort” which boasted 7-8 cabins, and provided many, many families with very enjoyable vacation experiences.
Today, the resort is known as “Daisy’s Acres”. I have placed an appropriate cache, near the entrance.
PLEASE EXAMINE THIS CACHE CAREFULLY FOR CLUES TO ANOTHER CACHE IN THE AREA (see “Your Cache of Caches”). DO NOT POST PHOTOS OF THE CLUES AND DO NO PUT THE CLUES IN YOUR LOG, AS THIS WILL SPOIL THE ADVENTURE FOR FUTURE GEOCACHERS AND YOUR LOG WILL BE DELETED!
Permission for placement of this cache was obtained from Mr. Rod Swan, owner, Daisy’s Acres Resort, Presque Isle, WI
