South Bar lake is surrounded by private property. I was able to gain permission to place water accessible only caches on the north end of the lake. I figure it is approximately one mile from the public access to the north end. Cache was placed from my kayak so there is no need to exit your boat. An SUP or canoe may work but it is very shallow at GZ. (No motors). Any attempt to access cache by land will be tressassing, you will get wet and we may lose the cache. So, PLEASE DON'T!
Parking is available at the Empire Beach Park. Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. there is a $1.00 per hour parking fee.
I was able to fit a second cache in the area to help make the paddle a little more rewarding. Cache is a camo'd match stick container (BYOP) that should be easy enough to spot. You will have to cross a weed bed on this one that will pretty much stop your kayak. I've done it a few times so it's do-able, just not a lot of fun. The difficulty rating isn't just the hide but includes the effort to get to the cache.
